Biography

Alt-Mezzo Katariina Holma is a Sweden Finn multidisciplinary musician born in 1994. She works as an opera singer, vocal coach and composer. Holma started her musical path and performances already at the age of 5, in a church choir in her hometown Alahärmä. After her flute and composition studies in Finland at the Central Ostrobothnia Conservatory 2014, Holma focused on her classical singing studies in Sweden, first at the Härnösands folkhögskola and later at the Stockholm University of the Arts. After the Degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts in Opera 2022, Holma has been freelancing as an opera singer and producing her own events and projects. Her latest opera main role debut was in Kokkola Opera Festival 2023, as Zanetto in the opera Zanetto of Mascagni. Holma has debuted at the Royal Swedish Opera in Rigoletto as Un paggio in 2021. Her first opera debut was in the first performance of Under en kvinnas hjärta by Sven-David Sandström, as An angel, with Norrbotten NEO in Piteå 2017. She has taken part in masterclasses with George Shirley, John Cheek, Richard Hetherington, Leif Lundberg and Tobias Ringborg and worked with conductors such as Sakari Oramo, Anna-Maria Helsing, Arturo Alvarado, Mats Janhagen and Elisar Riddelin, to name a few. Holma has received several scholarships both in Sweden and Finland, working in both countries. Because Holma has already experienced more than twenty years of studying music and performing, her experience both as an instrumentalist and an opera singer makes her one of a kind musician with high understanding for different music epochs and styles. Holma is an artist who loves to be in the creative process, both technically and dramatically, in order to share the music with her dramatic and expressive voice with the audience. Holma has worked on her scene and body language with several well-known directors, such as Eva Österberg, Charlotte Hellekant, Patrik Sörling and Linda Mallik. As a soloist she enjoys performing pieces such as St John Passion of Bach and Messiah of Händel, which seems to suit her voice like a glove. Holma is currently taking lessons with one of the best contraltos of our time, Hovsångerska Anna Larsson, adding new opera roles and art music to her repertoire, all the way from baroque to contemporary music.
